About Rove
What is Rove?
Rove is an Australian company that designs and hand-builds custom, ultra-lightweight manual wheelchairs. Founded in 2020 and based in Carrum Downs, Melbourne, we combine aerospace-grade titanium and carbon fibre with in-house 3D printing and fabrication to produce wheelchairs that are fully customised to each individual user.
Where is Rove based?
Rove is based in Carrum Downs, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Every wheelchair is designed, fabricated, and assembled in our Melbourne workshop.
Are Rove wheelchairs made in Australia?
Yes. Every Rove wheelchair is built in-house at our Melbourne workshop. This includes tube bending, titanium 3D printed lugs, carbon fibre layup, upholstery, and final assembly. Our chairs are certified to AS/NZS 3695.1:2011 to 110 kg.
The Chairs
What models does Rove offer?
Rove currently offers three models:
- Origin: Closed frame, maximum rigidity, our flagship for elite and highly active users.
- Axis: Open frame, our most popular model, designed for everyday use and easy car transfers.
- Titan: Fixed frame with simplified 20 mm incremental adjustability and a more accessible price point.
Are Rove wheelchairs manual or electric?
All Rove models are manual, self-propelled wheelchairs, but are compatible with a range of power-assist systems including Batec, Alber (e-motion, Smoov), Permobil (SmartDrive), Triride, Empulse, Klaxon, and more. Contact us to discuss fitment for your setup.
What is the weight capacity of Rove wheelchairs?
All Rove wheelchair models are tested and certified to AS/NZS 3695.1:2011 to 110 kg. Please contact us for options for up to 140 kg. With frame weights starting from just 1.5 kg... safe to say they're light!
Are Rove wheelchairs fixed-frame or folding?
All Rove chairs are fixed-frame. This is a deliberate design choice that maximises rigidity, energy return, and pushing efficiency. Rear wheels quick-release for compact transport. Backrests can be configured as rigid, folding, or telescopic depending on your needs.
How much does a Rove wheelchair weigh?
Frame weight varies by model and configuration, typically ranging from 1.5 to 4 kg. Total chair weight depends on wheel selection, upholstery, and accessories chosen at order.
Are Rove wheelchairs suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. All Rove models handle a variety of surfaces including footpaths, shopping centres, and light terrain. Off-road wheel packages are available for more demanding environments.
Are Rove wheelchairs tested to Australian standards?
Yes. All Rove models are certified to AS/NZS 3695.1:2011 to 110 kg, the Australian and New Zealand standard for wheelchairs.
