Production Assistant

Job Title: Production Assistant / Wheelchair Frame Builder

Reporting to: Production Manager

Salary: $50-60K annually approx.

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Location: 11 Insight Circuit, Carrum Downs, VIC, 3201

Purpose of the position

As a Rove production assistant and frame builder, you will be required to organise parts and materials, use hand and power tools including specialised tools to assemble wheelchairs, complete maintenance and repairs on new or used wheelchairs.  You will be required to assist in managing the building of wheelchairs through different stages of production, from speaking with suppliers to shipping fully built chairs to customers.

The applicant must be hardworking and enthusiastic, with a passion for making a difference in the assistive technology industry.
There are no formal education requirements, however attitude is key, and the individual must be eager to learn, receptive to feedback and show initiative.

The intent is for this role to develop into a workshop manager, or an engineering and CAD role depending on the individual’s inclination.

 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibility 1 – Frame Building.

This includes working with carbon fibre and titanium to create bespoke high-end wheelchairs.  You will be required to perform manual tasks such as polishing titanium, cutting carbon fibre tubes, using and programming CNC router.
It is expected that the applicant has an eye for detail and all work is completed to a high standard.  Staff are expected after training to be able to work independently.  This training can be all provided for an applicant with the right attitude and tendency to learn and grow.

 

Responsibility 2 – Managing stock and supply. 

This includes being able to look ahead at future orders and communicate with suppliers or the Rove production manager to ensure  that all stock and parts are ordered in correct timeframes.  Staff need to be able to use Google Sheets confidently to view and plan production and organise their weekly tasks with a growing level of autonomy.

 

Responsibility 3 – Shipping and Dispatch.

To assist with the management of the daily operations of the workshop including organising mail, couriers, and shipping of products. Staff need to be able to use Google Drive and Google Office Suite confidently.

Academic and trade qualifications

Essential qualifications

  • No essential academic qualifications.  The applicant will be chosen based on their attitude, problem solving abilities, desire to learn and potential to grow with the business.

  • The applicant must be practical and have competence with hand and power tools. (Drills, Hand Taps, Drill Press, Air Grinder, Air Linisher, SandBlaster, Polishing Wheel)

Desirable qualifications

  • Competence with CAD (Solidworks and/or Fusion360)

  • Competence with operating CNC router.

Essential Experience

  • No essential experience.  The applicant will be chosen based on their attitude, problem solving abilities, desire to learn and potential to grow with the business.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous workshop and/or manufacturing experience.

  • Mechanical or service background.

  • This position will be trained by the Production Manager and Founder with ongoing support and supervision.

  • This position is also expected to communicate with suppliers and third party providers.
